Lacy J. Ray entered into rest on May 26, 2019 at Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville, South Carolina. He was born February 18, 1943 in St. Pauls, North Carolina to the late James and Cora Lee Ray.
He graduated from St. Paul High School. After graduating, he moved to Washington, DC where he met and married Luverta Rivers IN 1965. He worked for Giant Foods as a meat cutter. In the early 70’s, he moved his family to South Carolina. He then worked for CSX Railroad for many years, He left the railroad and became the market manager for Food Lion Inc. He retired from, Food Lion in 2007. He then became a meat cutter for Piggly Wiggly in Hampton until he finally retired in 2017. He loved to fish and cook.
He is preceded in death by: his parents James and Cora Lee Ray; siblings, Johnny L. Ray, Roger Kemp, Bertha Lasane, and Esther Ray.
His leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 54 years, Luverta Ray; son, Lacy Ray, Fairfax, SC; granddaughter, Sharon Singleton, Lady’s Island, SC; four grandchildren, Trevon Perry, JaMiyah Perry, Josiah Perry, and DeZiyah Rivers; thre sisters, Elaine Ray, St Pauls, NC, Helen Chism, Upper Marboro, Maryland, Patrica Brown, Washington, DC; two brothers, Donald Ray, St Pauls, NC and Willie James Ray, Washington, DC; four sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Kemp and Ruby Ray both of Washington, DC, Maxine Ray, St. Pauls, NC, and Gladys Veney, Orangeburg, SC; two brothers-in-law, John Rivers, Rochester, NY and Bobby Brown, Washington, DC; special friend, Daniel Bryant; several nieces and nephews; host of other relatives and friends.
