Mrs. Rosa Jane Funches, 78, transitioned peacefully at home in Fairfax, South Carolina on the afternoon of April 29, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. She is now in her eternal home with her Lord and Savior. Rosa was born on June 4, 1940 to the late Willie and Clarisa Gordon of Estill, South Carolina. She grew up in a close knit family which instilled in her the values of hard work, a selfless commitment to family and a steadfast determination to serve God with all your heart. While a resident of Connecticut and South Carolina, she was extremely active and well known in her church community. Mrs. Funches was a woman of faith and served God and her church family with unconditional love. She was a long-time member of Mount Olive Pentecostal Church of Christ, Inc. in Estill, SC where she was a Mother of the Church and exhibited a life of devotion to the will of God. She will be remembered for her passionate teachings: on life and her spirit of giving and displaying love to all those in need-strangers, families, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Henry Gordon and her daughter, Janifer Lynn Lighten (who is survived by her husband William E. Lighten).
Left to cherish loving memories include: her devoted husband of 59 years, Arthur Lee Funches, Sr.; Son, Arthur Lee Funchess, Jr. (Wendi); Daughter, Lynette Parker (Darryl); Five granddaughters, Adrienne Lighten, Alexis Lighten Wesley (Robert), Dionne Parker, Desiree Parker, and Taylor Parker; Three grandsons, Christopher Lighten, Arthur Enrique Funchess, and Michael Lighten; Four sisters, Curlene Frazier, Louise Wright, Henrietta Simmons and Clara Evans; Three brothers, Wilbert Gordon (Sarah), Joe Lee Gordon (Ethel), and Jimmie Lee Gordon (Kathy). She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
There will be two services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Funches:
The wake will be held from 6-8 pm, Friday, May 3, 2019 at Mount Olive Pentecostal Church, 40 Singleton Avenue, Estill SC. The funeral will be held at 12 pm, Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Second Thankful Missionary Baptist Church, 2372 Cypress Creek Road, Pineland, SC. Burial will follow at the Second Thankful Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
