Alfonzia Thomas Obituary

“And he saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” - Matthew 4:19

I have been a fisherman of men my entire life on earth. Many I caught and allowed them to remain in my life and some I had to let go, so when the Angel of Death summoned me, I welcomed my departure from this land because life has been great to me. There’s peace and serenity on this journey called death. I took the road of death because I knew that my Master was waiting along the roadside to take me on to eternity. To my beautiful family and friends, I’ve lived for ninety wonderful years, so miss me, but let me go. I have gone to a different fishing place where others have gone before me. Alfonzia Thomas was born on April 16, 1934, to Louise and Hershall Thomas, Sr. in Waynesville, Georgia. He received his formal education at Risley High School in Brunswick, GA. He later joined the United States Army.

Alfonzia Thomas was united in holy matrimony with Dortha Odom on November 13, 1957, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Their union was blessed with three children: Rickey, Carolyn, and Curtis. In his leisure, he enjoyed reading, fishing, and watching old western movies. He was employed by Miami Heart Institute as a logistics manager for twenty-eight years.

No man has the power to determine when their earthly time is over. Alfonzia Thomas departed this life on May 8, 2024. He was preceded in death by his son, Willie James Parker; five brothers and two sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Rickey Thomas and Curtis Thomas; daughter, Carolyn (Vernon) Thompson; three grandchildren, Marlicia Thomas, Tiffany Thompson, and Vida Olmo; three great grandchildren, three brothers, Hershall (Juanita) Thomas, Rydell (Sarah) Thomas, and Michael (Paula) Thomas; three sisters, Barbara Yisrael, Sonia Gibson, and Joyce Dunson; four sisters-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.
