On April 26, 1942, in Waverly, Georgia, God blessed Thelma and Willie Williams with a beautiful gift from God and they named her Barbara Jean. She grew up to be the strong and confident individual that stemmed from her biblical name. She received her formal education at Ralph Bunch High School in Woodbine, Georgia. She accepted Christ as her Savior and was affiliated with Bethel Baptist Church.
The Bible states when a man finds a wife, he finds a good thing. When Lanzry found Barbara, he was indeed blessed. Barbara Williams was united in holy matrimony with Lanzry Gordon, Jr., in Brunswick, Georgia. They were not blessed with any children during this union.
There are many ways to describe Barbara Jean Gordon. She loved her family and always wanted those around her to understand the importance of family and showing them love without conditions. She enjoyed reading, watching sports and game shows. Barbara was employed by Gateway Behavioral Health Services as a Direct Support Professional for 36 plus years.
God’s plans are not always our plans, and God sent for his angel on July 18, 2023, this was much sooner than the family planned; however, we will be brave through our grief and try to understand.
In her transitioning, she leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: daughters, Valerie L. (Craig) Black, Cynthai Y. (Gary) McRae and Cheryl W. (Alphonso) Epps; sister, Everly Ford; brothers, Carlton Johnson, Melvin Williams, Michael Williams, and Mitchell Williams; sister-in-law, Charlotte L. Johnson; grandsons, Charles L. Bell, Jr., Antonio L. Grant, and Gary T. McRae, Jr.; granddaughter, Brittany R. McRae and a host of other family and friends.
