Bobby Henry “Robert” Bethel was born July 17, 1938, in Brunswick, Georgia. He was the first child that was born to the late Vincent, Sr., and the late Elnoria Bethel. Seven siblings were a blessed addition to Bobby Bethel’s life.
Bobby Bethel graduated from Risley High School in Brunswick, Georgia, in 1956. He was a scholar in all his high school academics. Bobby attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, majoring in computer technology. He served in the United States Army from 1962 until 1965, furthering his education as an NW Radio Repair/IT Tech. From 1965 until 1968, Bobby Bethel continued his military career in the Army Reserves as a Control Data Corp.
On October 28, 1966, Bobby Henry “Robert” Bethel married Elvera Elizabeth Brown. They enjoyed 58 years together. Following the union of Bobby and Elvera, their son, Darrell Lamont Bethel, was born on October 17, 1967, and on September 16, 1974, their daughter, Takisha Joy Bethel, was born. During this time, Bobby and his family resided in Queens, New York. In 1978, Bobby Bethel settled in Long Island, New York, and resided there for 45 years. During his residence in New York, he earned the name “L. A. Bob.”
While residing in Long Island, Bobby attended Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, NY, under the leadership of Pastor Bernard. He resumed his career as a computer programmer engineer. Bobby provided consulting work for various large companies and worked in the World Trade Center for many years. Bobby Bethel also had security clearance to do high-security computer programming work with the federal government.
Bobby Henry “Robert” Bethel departed this life on April 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Bethel, Sr.; his mother, Elnora Bethel; his grandparents; sister, Janice Cobb; brother, Charles Bethel; brothers-in-law, Rush Wyatt, Lucius Leon Brown and Roy Bozman.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing: his loving wife, Elvera E. Bethel; two children, Darrell L. Bethel and Takisha J. Bethel; one son-in-law, Michael C. Quick, Sr.; five grandchildren, Imani E. Bethel, Lawrence J. Bell, Michael C. Quick, Jr., Jacoby M. Quick and Jeremiah E. Quick; one great grandchild, Peyton Massiah Bell, extended grandchildren, Avyon and Kasey Quick; siblings, Eric (Viola) Bethel, JoAnne Bozman, Margie (William) Shine, Yvonne Wyatt and Vincent (Dorothy) Bethel, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Dr. Patricia Brown and Dr. Janice Moore; his cousin who was like a brother, James Tanner and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and friends.
