Catherine D. Hardy, affectionately called “Kathy” or “Kat” was born in Ludowici, Georgia on March 1, 1937, to the late Mr. Ned Daniels and the late Mrs. Jessie Lee Smiley Daniels. She transitioned from this life on Monday, April 17, 2023.
Catherine graduated as a proud member of the Risley High School Class of 1955. After graduation, she furthered her education in the nursing program at Brunswick Junior College, which is now Coastal College of Georgia. Mrs. Hardy was among some of the first African Americans hired at the formerly Glynn Brunswick Memorial Hospital which culminated into a 35-year career. Initially, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and after graduation, she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her love for her patients was noticeable by those whom she cared for and by their families.
She was joined in holy matrimony on February 9, 1957, to the late Mr. John William Hardy for 61 years. Through their union were born three children. Catherine D. Hardy was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. L. Carl Brown, where she served as a member of the Mother’s Board.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter and two sons, Kathy R. (Frank) Dasher, of Folkston, Georgia, Victor P. Hardy and Michael A. (Linda) Hardy, Sr., both of Brunswick, Georgia; four grandchildren, Yolanda (John) McClure of Savannah, Georgia, Tasha Porter of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Shay (Patrick) Smith of Savannah, Georgia, and Michael A.
