Cathy Michelle (Lewis) Shivers

A special thanks to each of you for gathering here today, not to recognize what is the ending of an earthly life, but to celebrate the beginning of my promised everlasting life.

Johnnie Mae and the late Richard James Lewis welcomed baby Cathy into this world on October 19, 1963. She was born at Saint Elizabeth hospital in Elizabeth, NJ. Cathy grew up in a naturing and loving family, which developed her into being the best daughter, sister, wife, mother, auntie, and grandmother, anyone could ask for. Cathy attended the public schools in Elizabeth, NJ. After graduation, she studied at Union County College, Craven Community College and East Carolina University. She was raised in Elizabeth, NJ before relocating to Plainfield, NJ, followed by her final home in New Bern, NC.

As you remember Cathy in your own way, please remember Cathy as a loving soul with a genuine spirit. One of the most beautiful, coolest, sassiest, down to earth people who genuinely believed the saying "Family Over Everything." The love she exemplified was just unexplainable. Her hobbies were shopping, vacationing, trips to the casino, and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

On June 23, 2021, God decided that Cathy’s work on earth was done. Cathy lived a great life. Now she joins other family members who have gone on before her to be with the Lord, which includes her dad, Richard James Lewis.

Cathy's love for her husband Lloyd was one to mimic. She honored and cherished their union.

 Her memories will live on forever in the hearts of her: husband, Lloyd “Rashan” Shivers; children, Chamir Shivers (Jamila), Charone Shivers (Renee’), and Chadir “Chaka” Shivers (Danielle) ; mother, Johnnie Mae Lewis, mother- in- law, Ruby Shivers, father- in -law Pete Shivers; grandchildren, Jamel, Jayla, Aria, Eliza, and Chadir Jr.; sisters, Pam Lewis, Cheryl “Wakia” Cotton (Freeman), Charlotte “Kydedra” Lewis; sister -in- law ,Stephanie Stephens; brothers-in-law,  Waheed Shivers and Walter “Sabir” Shivers; nieces, Chontey “TaeTae” Thomas (Markel) and Shardae Leverette; nephews, Jadon Russell, Hashec Lewis, Barry “BJ” Dixon, Jahlil Lewis, and her extended son Askia Shivers (Octavia) ; close cousins, Mary Ellen “Peachie”, Vanessa “Nessa” Shelly, and Monique “Mo” ; Godmother, Daphine Taylor; Godchildren,  Yahesha, Hakeem, Champagne, Mecca, and Unique; best friends, Nora Barcliff, Towana Robinson Myers, Teresa Boone; loving fur baby “Lovely”, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Due to the current state of (COVID-19) pandemic and in order to promote social distancing, anyone entering the funeral home for viewing; as well as attending all graveside services must wear a mask. We will also limit the number of persons allowed to enter the funeral home at any given period during the viewing process.  We ask that you leave the premise upon exiting the building. The family is most appreciative to each of you for  your prayers and considerations during this difficult time in their lives
