On Sunday, July 14, 2024, a dear family member, a devoted and loving father departed this life for another land. Cephus Walker, “Cephus, The Painter”, our dear sweet one who has gone on before us, we sorrow, but not as those who have no hope. We are sorrowful because we shall miss his kind smile and jokes.
Cephus was born on February 5, 1943, to the late Herman and the late Hilda Walker of Sapelo Island, Georgia. In July of 1969, Cephus found the love of his life, the late Eloise Green. She preceded him in death in 2000. Having surrendered his life to God at an early age, he joined St. James Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia. There, he remained faithful until his death. Let us praise God that he has, along with all other tired laborers, found a place to rest in God.
Cephus was educated in the McIntosh County School System. Cephus was employed by Blanche’s Courtyard for many years until he retired. Cephus gained a second family with Ripp and Pat Benton, owners of Blanche’s Courtyard, as well as his co-workers. He then started his own business as a carpenter until his health started to decline. He employed his oldest grandson, Dominque Walker as his apprentice.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Green Walker; parents, Herman and Hilda Walker; and brothers, Paul Walker, Herman Walker, Jr., and George Walker.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Pamela and Melony Walker, Tracy Bennett (Alton); grandchildren, Dominque and DeMarion Walker, Sierra McDuffy, and Serenity Hester; brothers,
Buster Walker (Betty), and Gibb Walker; sister, Verdi Mae Walker; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Walker and Lulu Walker; his faithful partner, Paula Mainor; devoted family friends, Ellen Temple and
Evelyn Simpkins; and a host of other loving and caring relatives and friends.
Amherst Street will never be the same without Cephus sitting on the front porch smiling. He will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family.
Rest in Peace, Cephus! You will forever be in our hearts!!
