“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God: And dead in Christ will rise first...” “and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” I Thessalonians 4:16 and Revelation 21:4
On May 10, 1939, which was a beautiful spring day, in Charleston, SC, Clem Brisbon, Jr., was born to the union of Clem Brisbon, Sr., and Mazzie Lee Brisbon. Raised in Brunswick, GA, Clem attended the historic Risley High School, and it would be here in this town where he would meet Shirley Ridley.
The two would join in holy matrimony in 1958, and go on to experience a life changing honeymoon in New York City. The bright lights of the big city captivated Clem, and a subsequent move to New York saw their union bloom. Four children were born to their blessed fifty-two year union, Beverly, Anthony, Gregory, and Clem III. He supported his family through his thirty-five years of service for the New York City Housing Authority as a Certified Elevator Mechanic and Maintenance Technician. However, his true passion was automobiles. A brilliant automotive mechanic, Clem knew everything there was to know about cars. He loved the hum of an engine and shared his love of cars through so many facets of life. Whether teaching many family members how to drive safely, being under the hood, or enjoying his own need for speed, he could be found often with a window down and blues music on the radio with the hits of fellow Georgian James Brown amongst his favorites. When not working, Clem would enjoy spending time with family and friends, filling every room he ever walked into with his infectious laugh and smiles.
A legendary prankster, he loved to joke, including making many waitress smile with his specialized water and lemonade combination, affectionately dubbed “Clemonade.” Clem departed this life on February 13, 2025, and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Brisbon; parents, Clem Sr. and Mazzie Lee Brisbon; brothers, Edward and Richard; and sister, Addrianne.
Those left to cherish his memories are his aforementioned children; brother, Ernest; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins; and a legion of friends and other loved ones whose lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed.
