I spent many years sailing on the seas of life but now I have stepped on board that “Old Ship of Zion”, never to return to this old world again. After eighty-eight years experiencing many sunsets and evening stars, don’t cry for me, I was ready for this rest! May there be no moaning of the bar, now that I am put out to sea.” On May 12, 1936, in Carneghan, Georgia, God gave this beautiful spirit to the late Abe Green and the late Willie M. Lemon.
Clifton M. Green, Sr., received his formal education in McIntosh County school system in Darien, Georgia. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was united with Carneghan Emanuel Baptist Church, Darien, Georgia. After graduation, he enlisted into the United States Navy on July 7, 1955. He was honorably discharged on December 20, 1975. During his career in the Navy, he was a Boatswains mate Chief Tug master. After his separation from the army, he migrated back to Brunswick and worked various jobs with B and W Plant; Winn Dixie; Hall, Jones and Brown Funeral Home, and he was a Merchant Marine Seaman.
A man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. Clifton M. Green, Sr., was united in holy matrimony with Mildred A. Washington on January 25, 1958, in Kingsland, Georgia. Their union was blessed with three children, Clifton M. Green, Jr., Deweece Green Ogden, and Ephraim W. Green, Sr.
Clifton was a phenomenal man with a huge heart and a great sense of humor. He was an amazing man, husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. His love for life was recognized and felt by many. In his leisure, he enjoyed watching high school and professional baseball, football and basketball games. While in high school he played baseball. He also coached the lady’s softball team.
God called His servant, peacefully and quietly to rest from the trials and labors of this earthly life. Clifton M. Green, Sr. departed this life on November 14, 2024. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred A. Green; father, Abe Green; mother, Willie Lemon; sister, Margaret Lemon, and brother, James Lemon.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Clifton M. (Bettie) Green, Jr., Deweece Green Ogden both of Jacksonville, Florida, and Ephraim W. (Lucy) Green, Sr., of Walterboro, South Carolina; loving sister, Carolyn Lemon of Miami, Florida; loving brother, Eddie L. (Darnelle D.) Kinnitt of Kingsland, Georgia; grandchildren, Melissa F. (Wilfredo) Maeda of Lynnwood, Washington State, Ciera N. Hargrove and Clifton M. Green, III both of Jacksonville, Florida; Mariah E. Green and Ephraim W. Green, Jr. both of Walterboro, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Emariona B.
Green, Karter S. Green, Andre L. McLeod, Jr., Levi J. Martinez, Tatyana E. Maeda, Michael R. Maeda, Ian A. Maeda, and Rayne A. Frazier; godchildren, Charles Grant and Olina G. McGuire, both of Savannah, Georgia, Geoffrey Glover of Kingsland, Georgia; Joseph Stevens of Marietta, Georgia, and Kenetria J. Smith of Ocala, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
