David Winford Myers

Although I have finished my earthly course of life, remember I am always with you in spirit. When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart. For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.

DAVID WINFORD MYERS was born on October 24, 1944, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Milton Myers, Sr., and Essie Chu Johnson Myers. He was the seventh of eight children born to this loving union. David received his early education in the Columbia public school system and graduated in 1964 from C.A. Johnson High School. During his time there, he was a classmate of Charles F. Bolden, Jr., who would later become a NASA administrator during the Obama administration and a distinguished space shuttle pilot, a connection David always regarded with pride.

Committed to furthering his education, David attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida, where he pursued studies in radio and television communications. He spent two years training in the field, developing skills that reflected both his curiosity and his desire to engage with emerging media. He later relocated to Washington, D.C., where he built a distinguished career with the federal government, serving faithfully for more than 31 years. Most of his tenure was spent as a Meteorologist Technician with the Department of Commerce, working under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) within the National Weather Service. In this role, David worked in Surface Analysis which show current weather conditions at the earth surface.

On January 28, 1978, David was united in holy matrimony with Desseline Patricia “Pat” Nunnally of Brunswick, Georgia. Their wedding took place at Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church in Brunswick, marking the beginning of a loving partnership that recently celebrated 48 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with two sons, David Winford Myers, Jr., and Cory Michael Myers. David has two additional children, Regina Myers and Lisa Myers, both of Washington, D.C. David and Pat made their home in Washington, D.C., where they lived, worked, and raised their family. After retiring from their careers with the federal government, they returned to Brunswick, Georgia, in 2016 to enjoy a quieter life together.

David found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of Tiger Woods, and whenever Tiger was on the course, David could always be found glued to the television, cheering him on with unwavering enthusiasm. He also loved football, and was true to his Washington roots, the Washington Commanders were his team of choice. Weekends often brought him together with a close-knit group of friends for spirited card games. Those gatherings were filled with laughter, friendly competition, and the kind of camaraderie he cherished. On many occasions, those marathon card sessions earned him a playful side‐eye from his wife.

David departed for eternal rest on June 6, 2026, at the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, Georgia. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by three brothers, Benjamin Johnson, Charles Myers, Sr., and Milton Myers, Jr.; two sisters, Sallie Myers Lipscomb and Gretchen Myers; three brothers-in-law, Calvin Adams, Sr., Melvin Lipscomb, Sr., and Tommy Nunnally; and two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Jean Myers and Evelyn J. Myers.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Pat; children, David Winford Myers, Jr., Cory Michael Myers, Regina Myers, and Lisa Myers; grandchildren, Arianna Willett and Gabriel Hernandez; two brothers, Robert Myers (Shirley) of Woburn, MA, and Jackie Myers of Fort Washington, MD; one sister, Shirley Frances Myers Adams of Bowie, MD; three brothers-in-law, Joe L. Nunnally (Tanya) of Antioch, TN, Cornell Nunnally, and George Nunnally, both of Brunswick, GA; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Fleming Myers of Spartanburg, SC and Hazel Nunnally of St. Simons Island, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
