Demetria Smith Fussell Obituary

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalms 23:4

It is hard to understand why people are taken from us so young, but today as a family, we find comfort in knowing that Demetria was a special part of a well-lived life. When God calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange.

Demetria Ann Smith-Fussell was born December 26, 1968 to Raymond and Queenie Smith in Miami-Dade, Florida.

Demetria A. Fussell received her formal education at Brunswick High School in Brunswick Georgia. She furthered her education at Columbus Technical College in Columbus, Georgia and later received an associate degree.

Demetria A. Fussell accepted Christ as her Savior at Temple of Truth Seventh Day Adventist at an early age, where she sung in the choir and performed usher duties.

Demetria Ann Smith was united in holy matrimony with Joe H. Fussell, Jr. on February 17, 1990 in Junction City, Kansas. Their union was blessed with two children: Joe H. Fussell III and Tashara S. Fussell. In her leisure, she enjoyed home improvement projects, reading her Bible, annual attendance of T.D. Jakes conferences, communicating with her children and grandchildren.

She was employed by Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Shift Lead for 21 years. Demetria was a member of Refresh Global Church; American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and served 2 years in the U.S. Army.

Demetria Ann Fussell departed this life on September 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond N. Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving and devoted husband Joe H. Fussell, Jr.;  her mother, Queenie Smith; her extended mother, Nancy Smith; her caring son, Joe H. Fussell III and wife Arlisha; her heartfelt daughter, Tashara; two grandchildren Saige and Sydney; faithful cousin, Senora L. Jones; five sisters: Wanda Brown, Bridget (Montsho) Foluke, Sr., Charlotte Smith, Lisa (Woodrow) Robinson and Pamela Lee; five brothers: Eric Smith, Raymond Smith, Jr., Douglas (Chiquia) Smith, Jerrod Smith and Keith Smith; aunts and uncles: Lenora (Emanuel) Browning, JC Smith, Cora Lassiter; mother-in-law, Yvonne Fussell; sisters-in-law, Anita Bradley and Pamela (Elijah) Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
