Derrick Cohen Obituary

Reflections of Life

“The Lord Giveth and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21

It’s hard to understand why people are taken from us at such a young age, but, today as a family, we find comfort in knowing that Derrick was a special part of a well lived life. When God calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange. Derrick Rodell Cohen was born March 2, 1968 to the late Rodell and the late Helen Cohen in Hampton, South Carolina.

Derrick received his formal education at Ridgeland High School in Ridgeland, South Carolina. He furthered his education at Nielson Electronics in Charleston, SC and later became a Cement Mason.

Derrick accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. In his leisure, he enjoyed car racing and lending a helping hand when needed.

Derrick Rodell Cohen departed this life on February 22, 2021 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodell and Helen Cohen; a brother, Curtis Rivers; and a sister, Cynthia Rivers.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  four brothers, Sydney (Gloria) Bocoman of Columbia, SC, Michael (Conchita) Rivers of Sacramento, CA, Keith Cohen of Pineland, SC, and Lacy Ray, Jr. of Estill, SC; two sisters, Kimberly Cohen of Pineland, SC and Battina (Ernest) Wroten of Orangeburg, SC; four aunts; two uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Due to the current state of (COVID-19) pandemic and in order to promote social distancing, as ordered by the Governor for the State of South Carolina, anyone entering the funeral home for viewing; as well as attending all graveside services must wear a mask. We will also limit the number of persons allowed to enter the funeral home at any given period during the viewing process.  We ask that you leave the premise upon exiting the building. The family is most appreciative to each of you for  your prayers and considerations during this difficult time in their lives
