Dorothy Searcy Obituary

Dorothy M. Searcy, affectionately known as “Dollie” was born on August 28, 1940, in the Parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, to Ephraim Lyttle and Ethel Campbell-Lyttle. She peacefully passed away on May 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. In 1958, Dorothy moved to the United Kingdom, where she began a new chapter in her life. In 1973, she and her husband, Willie Searcy, relocated to Brunswick, Georgia, where they built a home and raised their family.

A hardworking and dedicated woman, Dorothy worked for many years as a cook at the Buccaneer Restaurant on Jekyll Island and later as a supervisor for custodians at Brunswick High School, where she eventually retired. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. In her later years, she cherished the time spent visiting her children and grandchildren, whether it was a phone call or hopping on a plane to be with them. Her love and care for her family were constant, and she found fulfillment in nurturing these bonds, making her family feel truly special. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ephraim and Ethel Lyttle; and her dear siblings, Keith, Wilbert, and Norma.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Willie Searcy, Jr.; three children, Richard Walsh, Sharon Coates, and Kenrick Searcy; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her goddaughter, Lakena Butler. Dorothy is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Hermaine Rainford and Louise Lyttle, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Though Dorothy has passed, her legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to her family will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
