The earthly season of my life is over, so I have gone to a place where all mankind must go. It is a place beyond the open gates. All have been invited, but only a few will be chosen to remain forever. This place holds all eternal promises. I have gone to a place of everlasting peace and no more worries or sickness. This is a place where there is no pain or sorrow, and teardrops have ceased. I don’t want my exit from this life to be painful for any of my family and friends because I love each of you.
The season of life for Elijah Capers, Sr., began on December 19, 1956, when he was lent by his heavenly Father to the late Richard and Lula Monroe Capers in Brunswick, Georgia. He was surrounded by so much love because he had a very large and loving family. Elijah received his formal education in the Glynn County School System in Brunswick, Georgia. In his leisure,
he enjoyed fishing and working. He loved his family and special friends. Elijah Capers, Sr., enlisted in the United States Army on February 22, 1978, and served until he was honorably discharged. He was employed by the City of Brunswick Public Works as a cemetery lead for eighteen years. He was a member of the Golden Isles Hammerhead Shark Rugby Team.
On August 10, 2025, his season of life ended when God sent His angels to return the gift He lent to the Capers family. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Antonio Capers; grandsons,
Anthony Capers and Avarius Capers; seven brothers, Wilbur Monroe, Charles Bacon, Ardell Bacon, Frank Bacon, Henry Monroe, Keno Capers, and Robert Bacon; and one sister, Annie Mae Lawrence.
He leaves to cherish his memories and continue the family legacy: his two daughters, Natisha Brooks and Chandra Capers, both of Brunswick, GA; two sons, Elijah Capers, Jr., and Mario
Capers, both of Brunswick, GA; two sisters, Shirley Seymour of Mableton, GA, and Debra Capers Vereen of Brunswick, GA; one adoptive brother, Terrance Holmes of Brunswick, GA; two
sisters-in-law, Mamie Bacon and Ether Bacon; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
