Elizabeth Martin Obituary

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. II Corinthians 5:1

Ms. Elizabeth Martin was born in Grenada, Mississippi, on March 9, 1938, the daughter of the late Edward and Lucy Jones. The family moved to Millington, Tennessee, where Elizabeth was educated in the Millington Public School System. In 1954, the family moved to Flint, Michigan.

Elizabeth was a proud resident of Flint, Michigan. She worked several years for General Motors at Buick City. She also worked for Temple Beth El. She was a service-oriented individual who loved
serving her community. She took pride in fulfilling her duties and responsibilities. She volunteered at the Roosevelt Harris Jr. Senior Citizen Center and the Southeast Georgia Health Systems of Brunswick, where she was awarded “Volunteer of the Quarter” in 2019. Elizabeth loved spending time with her family. She shared her love for food with her family and friends by dining at various restaurants, especially on Sundays after church. On any given day, you could find Elizabeth sitting outside on her porch working one of her many word search puzzles, which was her favorite past time. Elizabeth was known for her scratch German chocolate cake. She had a recipe that was second to none. She was a member of Zion Rock Baptist Church prior to attending Abundant Life Fellowship both of Brunswick, Georgia.

Elizabeth departed this life on February 7, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Sr. and Lucy Jones; brothers, Robert, Russell, Harrison, Clark, Alvin, Hervey, Thurman, Edward Jr., and Ken; and sister, Pearl Robbs.

She leaves to cherish her memories: four sons and their wives, Michael (Gail) Martin, Kenneth (Deborah) Martin, Gregory (Cheryl) Martin, and Dennis (Susan) Martin, and bonus son, Rodney Lawson; seven grandchildren, April (Kevin) Warfield, Tanjala (Trammel) Orr, Timothy Blackwell, Naquana Caudle, Da’Ondra (Javarr) Mayes, Kaleb, and Joshua Martin; four great-grandchildren, Cameron (Alexandria) Warfield, Kolby Warfield, Aaron Orr, and Timothy E.M. Blackwell; two devoted sisters, Clara (Wiley) Viverette and Gestine (Willie) Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends.
