Eugene Grayson Obituary

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Psalm 23:4

My life was beautiful, for as long as it lasted, but the journey of my life has come to an end after eighty-eight years. God promised all mankind three scores and ten. He gave me eighteen additional years. Please find comfort in knowing that I have no regrets whatsoever. Some things in life are impossible for mankind to fully understand. No matter how long God has entrusted our loved ones here on Earth, their departure is hard to understand. As a family, you must accept God’s will and abide by his holy words. The bible tells us that to be absent from the body, is to be in the present of the Lord. Considering the sorrow in our hearts, it is with humble submission and reverence that we must accept the will of God.

On September 15, 1935, in Hampton County, South Carolina, God gave this beautiful spirit to Roosevelt and Virginia Bowman Grayson. Eugene was educated in the public schools of Hampton County. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. He enlisted in the United States Army on November 19, 1957. After his separation from the army, he migrated to Newark, New Jersey, looking for better opportunities for the family. In the early 70’s, after many years of living in the north and looking for a life of peace and tranquility, he returned to Pineland, South Carolina. Eugene was a phenomenal man with a huge heart and a great sense of humor. He was an amazing man, husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. His love for life was recognized and felt by many. He was employed by Sea Pines as a landscaper, until his retirement. After retirement, he moved to Statesboro, Georgia. He also had a landscaping business and loved gardening.

He was united in marriage to Louise Grimes. To this union four sons were born: Eugene, James, Eddie, and Dave. After the death of Louise, he met and married Mary Louise Cole. To this union, a beautiful, blended family was formed with love.

Eugene departed this life on December 31, 2023. God called HIS servant peacefully and quietly to rest from the trials and labors of this earthly life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Virginia Grayson; first wife, Louise Grimes Grayson; sons, Eugene Grayson, Jr., and James Grayson; sisters, Maggie Grayson Hamilton, Lila Grayson Smith, Mary Alice Grayson Navarro, Mae Pearl Grayson Patterson, and Mable Grayson Harris; and brothers, Curtis Grayson, William Grayson, Robert Grayson, and Woodrow Grayson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Mary Louise Cole Grayson; children, Eddie Grayson, Dave Grayson, Reginald Moss, and Balisha (Randolph) Flemming; adopted daughter, Frances Reed; stepchildren, Calvin, John, and Barbara Ann (Howard) Cole; sisters, Carrie Grayson Patterson and Lunetta Grayson; brother, Bishop Otis (Besty) Grayson; stepbrothers and sisters, Harry (Francis) Orr, Jimmy (Sara) Orr, Elease Saxon, and Verna Horace; sisters-in-law, Luereatha Grayson, Samantha Cole, Louise Newkirk, Ruthie Cowan, and Johanna Cole; brothers-in-law, Elijah Harris, Robert Patterson, James Cole, Jr., and James Cowan; goddaughters, Habibah “Dot” Ishmel and Daphney “Moochie” Bowman; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.
