Frankie was born in Brunswick, GA on October 5, 1937, to Frank and Ruth Sullivan. From the tender age of 4, she was raised by Ms. Cleo Sullivan, who loved her dearly. She attended the Glynn County School System and played the position of center on the Risley High School girls' basketball team. She had a love for cooking, especially for her family and friends. She was known for her sweet potato pies, deviled crabs and chitlins.
Frankie was saved under the leadership of her brother-in-law, Pastor George Jones and became a member of Harlem COGIC on St. Simons Island. After her tenure at Harlem COGIC. she transferred her membership to City of Refuge Mission Family Worship Center (COGIC). She served as co-chair of the Pastor's Aid Committee and Church Mother to the late Bishop Thynoise and Pastor Mary Hines. After serving 33 years at City of Refuge COGIC, the Lord led her to The Revival Center Church of Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, under the leadership of Bishop Joel Longshore. Here, she served as Mother in Zion and was known for her love to serve and pearls of wisdom. This would be her church home until the day the Lord called her home.
Frankie married the late Joseph Jones early in life and together this union produced six children. She later married the late Mr. Douglas Quimby, the love of her life. This union brought four boys into her life. After the two became one, Frankie and Doug together joined the Georgia Sea Island Singers. They were very instrumental in keeping the Gullan-Geechee Heritage and Black history alive. Frankie and Doug organized and hosted the Sea Island Festival for 18 years on St. Simons Island. Together they traveled throughout the US and Canada, educating others and sustaining this rich heritage. During their travels they performed for diverse groups of audiences. This included audiences as Zell Miller, the governor of Georgia at the Governor's Mansion and the Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway in 1994. Additionally, they performed for former President George W. Bush at the G-8 Summit on Sea Island, Georgia in 2008. This union was nurtured for 40 years until Doug was called home to rest with the Lord.
Frankie was preceded in death by her husband, parents and several siblings. Her legacy is continued by her ten children, Joangela Stephens (Albert), Rosa Ramsey, Joseph Jr., Van Merrell (Thomas), Vanessa Dart, Daryl Jones (Pinkey), Douglas Quimby, Darron Quimby, Frederick Quimby and Melvin Quimby; three sisters, Julia Mangram, Gloria-Diane Bower and Ramona Griffin; brother Ephraim Sullivan; Godson, Daniel Hines; 25 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
