Gibb Walker, Sr Obituary

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7

The journeys that I’ve traveled across the seas of this world gave me peace and longevity. I have experienced many sunrises and sunsets during my eighty-seven years of life, and I have no regrets as I take my last journey across the sea to meet the man that will give me my final peace. Don’t cry for me because I want each of you to know, “It is well, it is well with my soul.” The very lyrics of this song were uttered in the heart of Gibb Walker, Sr., as he crossed the river on February 10, 2026. His life began on November 20, 1938, on Sapelo Island which taught him to love the water. Throughout life, Gibb found pleasure in doing multiple activities such as shrimping, fishing, and working on boats. After many years, he decided to retire from the water. He then dedicated his life to fixing shrimp nets. The yard was full of nets as he sat on his porch, working on them. Then as time went on, his health started to decline.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hilda Walker; one daughter, Virginia Denise Walker; and four brothers, Heman Walker, Jr., Paul Walker, George Walker and Cephus Walker.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his very, very special young lady, Tamitra Williams; daughters, Yvonne Williams, Sarah (Walter) Heidt, Teresa Walker, Marquita Walker, Natosha Drayton, A’Narria Walker, and Paisley and Payton Williams, all of Brunswick, GA; sons, Gibb (Melissa) Walker, Jr., of Brunswick, GA, Michael Baker of Norfolk, VA, and Mario (Trinia) Baggs and Quantavius Walker, both of Brunswick, GA; thirty grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Virdie Mae Walker of Newark, NJ; one brother, Buster (Betty) Walker of Newark, NJ; his heart held a special place for his godchildren, Raven Thomas, India Rogers, Andre Mosley, Ayonna Blaine, Breanna Johnson, Zakeria’ Thomas, and KaniJah Foster; special people in his life, Gray Cook and Sylvester Hillery; special grandson, Joshua Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
