Born Gladys Beatrice Barneman, she was simply known as “Mama” by her children, “Nana” by her grands, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grands, and “Clarkie” by her dear friend, Adele. Gladys made her entrance in this world on January 20, 1937, to the proud parents of Abraham and Ruth Barneman in Brunswick, GA. Although sharp with her tongue, she was a lover of Christ and raised her children to do just the same. Gladys married Lee Arthur Haugaubook and loved him deeply. On Monday, July 15, 2024, Gladys transitioned from labor to reward with comfort at her daughter’s home. She was preceded in death by her father, Abraham Barneman; mother, Ruth Barneman (Reed); sister, Carlee Stafford; and grandson, De’Anthony Davis.
Gladys was loved by many. Gladys is the mother of five children, Thomas (Rose) James of Brunswick, GA, Anthony “Rodee” James of Atlanta, GA, Sharon (Lonza) Davis of Brunswick, GA, Leroy “Junebug” Clark, Jr., of Brunswick, GA, and Rena (Angela) Clark of Atlanta, GA; she was the Nana of nine grandchildren, Latara (Titus) Chance Green of Atlanta, GA, Joey Drayton of Brunswick, GA, Alonna Davis of Byron, GA, Takisa Clark of Charlotte, NC, Dante Lawrence of Savannah, GA, Ryan Clark of Hinesville, GA, Rasheed Clark of Macon, GA, Precious (Lloyd) Willis of Hinesville, GA and Zackary Clark of Los Angeles, CA; great grandmother (still Nana) to four, Serah Chance of Atlanta, GA, Garry Chance, Jr., of Atlanta, GA, Melchezdeck Green of Atlanta, GA, and De’Ajha Green of Atlanta, GA; lastly, she was the great great-grandmother to Gianna Chance, Khelani Chance, and Teagan Howell, all of Atlanta, GA; also leaves behind two nieces Loraine (Tommy) Dixon and Faye (Willie) Brooks and a host of friends who were more like family.
