Helen Watkins Obituary

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalms 23:4

Whenever the time comes when we all must depart from this world, we’re never alone. God almighty walks with us from our birth, throughout our life, and into the passage of death. God will never leave us or forsake us. He is with us until the end. Death was never part of God’s original plans, but because of the sinful nature of mankind, death is evitable. The time has come to bid my current
life farewell, I pray that all of my loved ones will find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home. As a family, you must accept God’s will and honor him
for the seventy-one beautiful years, He allowed me to remain here on earth.

Everything that comes from God is beautiful. On April 7, 1952, in Jacksonville, Florida, the late Walter Lee McCloud and the late Regina Culpepper McCloud were blessed to receive a precious
and amazing baby girl who they named Helen. From childhood to death the family realized that Helen had been blessed by God with the spirit of helping others to endure impossible situations through internal faith.

Helen received her formal education in the public schools of Glynn County and was a graduate of Glynn Academy. After graduation, she furthered her education at Brunswick College which is now
called the College of Coastal Georgia. She accepted Christ and began her spiritual journey at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Brunswick, Georgia, where she served as a volunteer at Saint Vincent de Paul. Helen’s entire life was spent helping others, taking care of her flowers, and loving her family. She was employed by the City of Brunswick as a fire fighter until her retirement. Helen was a member of the Glynn County Democratic Party, CASA, and the Altamaha Riverkeepers.

God called HIS servant, peacefully and quietly to rest from the trials and labors of her earthly life on February 8, 2024. Waiting to welcome her spirit to her new home were her father and mother, Walter and Regina McCloud; brothers, Homer Singleton and Walter Lee McCloud, Jr.

Her memories and legacy will forever be cherished by the following loved ones: daughters, Mahogany Bens-Ricks (Dwayne) of Brunswick, GA; sons, David McCloud Bens of Brunswick, GA, and Walter Lee McCloud III (Tasha) of Jacksonville, Florida; stepdaughter, Hazel Etheredge (Alex); stepson, Darryl Holmes; brother, Reginald McCloud; grandchildren, Andrews Bens, Mercedes Bens, Tleosha Hayward, Madelyne Bens Jones, and Marilynn Bens Jones; great-grandchildren, Audrey Nesbit, Dallas Hayward, and Dakohta Hayward; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, children that she loved and advocated for throughout her life, and friends.
