With shattered hearts, we mourn the sudden and tragic loss of our beloved James E. Patterson, who was taken from us far too soon on August 5, 2025. James was the heartbeat of our family—a wonderful husband, a devoted father, a cherished son, a loyal brother, and a friend to all who knew him. His legacy of love, strength, and unwavering protection will endure forever.
James E. Patterson was born on June 14, 1965, to Sandra Thomas and Andrew Patterson in Brunswick, Georgia. James received his education in the Glynn County school system. He is a 1984 graduate of Glynn Academy. He was a member of the First African Baptist Church, St. Simons Island, Georgia, where he rededicated his life to Christ. James had a very generous heart and contributed to many civic organizations in the community. He was a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association #1423 and also a member of the Brunswick Masonic Grand Lodge.
James was an avid sportsman and enjoyed competing in competitive sports. He was an avid bowler and participated in league bowling for over 30 years. He also enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool. James especially enjoyed watching NFL sports and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Evie.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Sandra Thomas and Andrew Patterson.
His memory lives on with his wife, Shannon Patterson; sons, James Patterson, Jr., (Ronisha Prince) and Joshua Patterson; daughter, Jylah Patterson; one special granddaughter, Evie N. Patterson; four brothers, Apostle Bobby Kirsey, Walter Keyon Thomas, Bobby Leon Thomas, and Charles Deon Thomas; four sisters, Evangelist Sharon Johnson, Monica Cole, Andria Patterson, and Chelsea Patterson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
