"And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying. Neither shall there be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." 21:4
To my family and friends that have gathered for my great celebration, don’t be angry with God because the death angels came earlier than planned. I know it’s also hard to understand why people are taken from this world at such a young age, but I want each of you to understand that my fate was determined by God Almighty. Although, I am young, I’ve lived a full and happy life. I have no regrets! As a family, I pray that you will find comfort in knowing that nothing happens unless God allows it. Those that have gone before us taught us to look to Heaven for our strength. God is in control! When you start to miss me and those tears are falling, use your faith to comfort and mitigate the pain. How long one lives isn’t important, but what matters the most is the relationship that we have with God while we live in this world.
In life, we never understand the trials and tribulations that we will encounter. I was taught at a very young age that if life gives you lemons, take them and make lemonade. When I entered into this world on February 23, 1981, to the late Jeanette Smith and the late Herman Patterson in Hampton County, South Carolina, I never imagined that God was going to call my mother home at such a young age and that my grandparents, the late Lottie Mae and James Smith, would take on the responsibility of raising me and my brother.
Jaquan was educated in the public schools of Hampton School District #2 and attended Estill High School in Estill, South Carolina. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Furman, South Carolina. In his leisure, he loved cooking, fishing, racing cars, and making people laugh - especially playing video games with Jasmine and Josylln. Jaquan was known as “Daddy” to family and “Buddy Love Jones” to friends and co-workers.
Jaquan Antavius Patterson departed this life on November 3, 2024. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Smith; father, Herman Patterson; grandparents, James and Lottie Mae Smith; and uncle, Thomas Graves.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Jasmine Patterson and Josylln Patterson, both of Spring eld, GA, Christopher Hopkins of Estill, SC, Kaitlyn Patterson of Augusta, GA, and Shanariah Govan; brothers, Pastor Marcel (Adrian) Smith and Antonio (Clarissa) Grant; aunts, Carrie (William) Solomon, Dolly Smith, and Margaret Cuyler; uncle, James (Alberta) Smith, Jr.; special cousin, Monica Cuyler; favorite nephews, Martavius Smith and Markeim Smith; godmother, Aletha Jones; and other family members and friends.
