On October 15, 1952, God blessed the world with the birth of Jeanette Brown. Born to the late John Esther and Janie Bell Brown in Atlanta, Georgia. How Jeanette came into the world would be contented with how she would live, brave and strong. She was born on the floor of a taxicab on the way to Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Being the oldest daughter and the second oldest of 11 children, she was a protector, nurturer, and caregiver to her youngest siblings from an early age. Also, she would be the same for other children in her neighborhood while only being a child herself. Jeanette was also a person who would give to all in need, no matter how little or much she had, she would give it all. These gifts followed her into adulthood. Yet her greatest gift was love. She loved family unconditionally, all these gifts and characteristics were not only passed along to her family, but to everyone she met.
Jeanette received her early education in Atlanta, Georgia, until she moved to Darien, Georgia in 1965, with her mother and siblings. She received the remainder of her education in Darien, where she graduated from Todd Grant High School in 1970. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA, upon moving to Darien became a member of First African Baptist Church and gave her life to Christ at an early age. During this time, at the age of 15 in 1967, she would meet the first and only love of her life, Jesse Campbell, Sr. They were destined to be together. Shortly after their meeting, Jesse joined the United States Marine Corps and was sent to the Vietnam War. She waited, and he said her love letters gave him the will to survive and return home. Upon his return, Jeanette and Jesse would marry on August 22, 1970, and remained married for almost 56 years until God called her home on March 12, 2026. Four children were born to their union: Jesse Jr., Michael, Chemeka, and Jessica Campbell. Not only was she a loving wife, but she was also a loving and nurturing mother.
Jeanette was a homemaker, and a hard worker. She worked in several industries such as hospitality, manufacturing, retail, and as a seamstress, which was a natural gift. She would obtain a Certificate in Retail Management from Rielly Institute in 1990. After continuing to work in the retail industry, she eventually left to start her own housekeeping business and became a private executive housekeeper and assistant for a prominent family on Sea Island, Georgia. She also maintained her side businesses as a seamstress and doing furniture restoration until her retirement.
In every area she touched, Jeanette left a legacy of love, hard work, giving and advocating not only for yourself, but to all those in need. The legacy will continue to live on through her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Esther and Janie Bell Brown; siblings, Nathaniel Newton, Jerome Brown, Earnestine Brown-Skipper, John Freddie Brown, Dorothy Brown-Vann, Edgar, Alfred, and Wilma Jean Brown; firstborn son, Jesse Campbell, Jr.; and twin grandchildren, Kelvin and Kelise Campbell.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Campbell, Sr.; children, Michael (Finiece) Campbell, Sr., Chemeka Campbell, all of Darien, GA, and Jessica (Johnny III) Asbell of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Jesse Campbell III of Stone Mountain, GA, Devin Campbell of Texas, Derek Campbell of Washington, DC, Taylor Rayhon of Brunswick, GA, Michaela (Adrian) Fletcher, Maya and Michael Campbell, Jr., all of Atlanta, GA, Faniche (Jason) Khan of Tampa, FL, Joshua Brown and Chloe-Chenoa Campbell, both of Darien, GA, Davon Hill, Jr., of Brunswick, GA, Leah Lauren-Jeanette Kincaid of McDonough, GA, Derrica (Matthew) Levy of San Francisco, CA, Jasmine Asbell of Atlanta, GA, Jaylee and Johnny Asbell IV both of Brunswick, GA; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Hudson, and brother, Larry James Brown, both of Brunswick, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
