A baby was born to the late Ethel “Freely” and Joseph Dunmeyer, Sr., on November 15, 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina and was given the name Joseph LaShawn Dunmeyer Jr. He quickly and affectionately became known as “Big Joe”

Big Joe was educated in Hawaii and South Carolina public school systems. He was awarded a football scholarshhip to play at Charleston Southern University (formerly Baptist College) where he honed his skills as a linebacker and pledged Phi Beta Sigma. Big Joe has always had a passion and enthusiasm for big rigs. Ironically being an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, his first job driving was with Cowboys Logistics, mainly because of the name and that the owner was just as big of a Cowboy fan. Big Joe’s last haul was with C&C Freedom Properties, LLC

At an early age, Big Joe accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal saviour at Saint Paul Presbyterian Church under the leadership of Reverend McKinley Washington, Jr.

Big Joe was called from labor to reward at 8:38 am on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the tender age of 50.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel “Freely” Dunmeyer, brother, Kevin Dunmeyer, and his grandparents Solomon and Daisy Pinckney and Leon and Evelina Mungin.
He leaves to cherish memories to his father, Joseph (Donna) Dunmeyer, Sr.; his children, Marques Deguiri, Shayla Dunmeyer, Joseph Dunmeyer III, and Kavon Dunmeyer; one grandson, Hendrix Haynes his sister, Feleasa “Lisa” Patten (Eddie), and a host of devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, loving relatives, sympathetic friends and acquaintances.
Due to the current state of (COVID-19) pandemic and in order to promote social distancing, anyone entering the funeral home for viewing; as well as attending all graveside services must wear a mask. We will also limit the number of persons allowed to enter the funeral home at any given period during the viewing process. We ask that you leave the premise upon exiting the building. The family is most appreciative to each of you for your prayers and considerations during this difficult time in their lives.
