It was a very cold New Years Day in 1947, in a small country town known as Lake City, South Carolina, when God blessed the late James and the late Mathilda “Tiller” Peguese with their second son of five boys, whom they named Kenneth Dewitt. He grew and flourished thanks to the strong roots at home and the nourishment that unconditional love provides. Due to his upbringing, Kenny was a wonderful and loving husband, an awesome and devoted father, a proud and doting grandfather, an attentive and dutiful son, a kind and considerate brother, an amazing uncle, and a faithful and loyal friend.
Kenneth served in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. After serving in the Army, he became employed with the United States Postal Service until he retired in 2008. Kenneth was well known by those individuals that encountered him through the postal service as the “mailman.” Kenneth was a very faithful and dedicated member of the historical Greater St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was an active trustee and a member of the media team where he videoed weekly services and other special events. Kenneth loved being involved with the youth of the church where he was known as “The Chief” of YPD. He sponsored many fish fries and baked cinnamon cakes, so that the youth could have successful fundraisers. He also assisted with the Lake City Recreational Department as an assistant softball coach.
On February 28, 1987, Kenneth Peguese married the love of his life, Christine Wilson. Their union was blessed and prosperous because of their faith in God, love for each other, admiration, trust, and mutual respect. Kenneth was an expert in many areas, but the highlight of his life were fishing, cooking, barbecuing, traveling, and being with his family and grandboys, Desmond and Kayden. Kenneth was famous for making pound cakes, peach cobbler, peanut brittle, and pigtail pilaf. He loved his family and spared no expense in trying to make sure they were happy and well-provided for. He took them on yearly vacations and would be so happy seeing that they were enjoying themselves.
On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Kenneth answered to God when he went from his earthly home to his heavenly home at MUSC-Florence. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Charles, Jerry, and Elijah Peguese. He leaves to cherish his memories and await the coming of Christ: his devoted and dedicated wife of 38 years, Christine Wilson Peguese of Lake City, SC; two beautiful daughters, Mathilda A. Peguese of Columbia, SC and Kenya (Desmond) Page of Florence, SC; two grandsons, Desmond Page, Jr., and Kayden Page both of Florence, SC; one brother, James Veron Peguese of Lake City, SC; sisters and brother-in-law, Helena Holmes of Landing, NJ, Roy Lee Wilson of Lake City, SC, Teronal Wilson of Columbia, SC, and Jim Lindsey of Denver, CO; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and the Greater St. James AME church family.
