I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4: 7-8
Heavenly Father, we understand that your will must be done. We refuse to be ungrateful and selfish for all the joy that Lillie Mae brought into our lives. As a family, we are thankful for the happiness we’ve known and forever grateful for Lillie’s seventyseven beautiful years on earth. The life of Lillie Mae Ruth Gordon began in Fairfax, South Carolina, on September 5, 1943, when God blessed to the union of the late Floyd Ruth and the late Bertha Grumbley Ruth this unique bundle of joy. God created an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend who left a memorable impression on each life that she touched. Lillie Mae was affectionately known as “Sista” to her family and close friends.
Lillie Mae Ruth Gordon received her formal education in the public schools of Hampton County and graduated from Estill Training School, Estill, South Carolina. Lillie Mae Ruth Gordon “Sista” accepted Christ as her Savior over 30 years ago and was a faithful member of St. John Holy Church. Lillie Mae’s life was embedded with living holy. She kept her focus on living the type of life that was acceptable in the eyesight of God Almighty. Lillie Mae’s life exemplified the true qualities of a Missionary, which was a more than the title she held at St. John Holy Church. For years she organized collecting, purchasing, and distributing bags of food items for an entire meal twice a year for our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas meals giveaway, giving the church congregation the opportunity to share God’s blessings with those that were less fortunate.
Lillie Mae Ruth was united in holy matrimony with Perry Gordon on September 5, 1980. She had a love for scarves, flowers, and pins. Her favorite color was black and white. She was known for smelling good. Her favorite places to eat were Hampton Restaurant, BoBops, Lester’s, and Golden Corral. She was dedicated to her brother, Sidney Carter, who she loved beyond measures!! Her husband, Perry Gordon, was the love of her life. She loved children and people both young and old. She loved going out to eat with her husband on Thursday nights. Lillie was employed by Best Manufacturer as a seamstress for many years, until she retired. Lillie Mae Ruth Gordon “Sista” departed this life on July 3, 2021.
She was preceded in death by father and mother, Floyd and Bertha Ruth; brothers, Joe Carter and Craig Carter; and husband, Perry Gordon.
She leaves to cherish her memories: sisters, Lillie B. Solomon and Betty Cummins; brother, Sidney Carter; five brothers-in-law, Johnnie (Thomasina) Gordon of Varnville, SC, Eloan (Louise) Gordon of Brunson, SC, Orin (Justine) Gordon of Nixville, SC, Randolph (Gloria) Gordon of Nixville, SC, and Nathaniel (Juanita) Johnson of Garden City, GA; two sisters-in-law, Beulah Mickle of Nixville, SC, and Mary Lee Strong of Estill, SC; three special nieces, Wanda Lewis of Navarre, FL, Consenna (Ronald) Solomon of Estill, SC, and Carolyn Wallace of Nixville, SC; one special sister-in-law, Justine Gordon; five special nephews, Mike Blake, Ian Commissiong, Brian Commissiong, Ronald Solomon, and Alonzo Solomon of Brooklyn, NY; six godchildren; and a host of great-aunts, great-uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
