Mrs. Lucile Anita Powell White, the daughter of the late Mr. Edward and Mrs. Cora Lee Powell was born on February 7, 1925, in Hazelhurst, Georgia. She was the oldest of three children, James
Powell, who preceded her in death, and Theresa Powell Malachi. She was baptized at an early age at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church on St. Simons Island, Georgia. She worked faithfully as a member of the senior choir. She was also a member of the mission ministry, Sunday school teacher, and culinary ministry.
Lucile began her early education at Coffee County Training Center, in Douglas, Georgia. She furthered her education at Beaufort County Training School in Beaufort, South Carolina. She relocated back to St. Simons Island, Georgia, and she, along with her husband Ira McNair, owned and managed a taxi service known as the St. Simons Cab and owned the Pig Restaurant on St. Simons Island, Georgia. She also engaged in personal catering and private home care services. Her hobbies included traveling, crossword puzzles, watching westerns on TV, and having fun with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Lucile worked diligently as a troop leader with the Girl Scouts of America, with the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Mission and Prayer Ministry,
as Mother of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, and with the Garden Club of Glynn County.
Lucile was united in marriage to Ira McNair who preceded her in death. She later became united in marriage with Phillip White, who also preceded her in death. A daughter, Pauline White Short, and niece, Reka Jamison, preceded her in death.
Lucile quietly and peacefully joined hands with an angel on February 27, 2025, at her home on St. Simons Island, GA, surrounded by her family.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her sister, Theresa Malachi of St. Simons Island, GA; brother in law, Harry White; grandchildren, Annette Harris, Irish Kirby, Perry Short, Phebie Young, and Claude Short; special great-grandson, Cedric Short; nieces and nephews, Sandra Orr, Cynthia Green, Larry Eckstine, Lynn (Darwin) Morris, Brenda Eckstine, Wanda Benford, Zandra Bland, and Kimou White; grandnieces and nephews, Michael Green, Shawn Green, Deja Smith, Keaden Jamison, Shakasha Orr, Demetrius Orr, Lamont Powell, and Brian Orr; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
