Whenever the time comes when we all must walk through that valley of the shadow of death, we’re never alone; God almighty walks with us from our birth, throughout our life, and into the passage of death, God will never leave us or forsake us. To all my loved ones that I am leaving behind, don’t worry about me, because my heavenly Father sent His angels to reclaim his gift to this world. Please be forever grateful and thankful for the happiness we’ve shared. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys. As you celebrate the end of my life’s journey, I pray that each of you will find comfort in knowing that a loving and compassionate God knows what’s best for each of us.
Mable Lynette Gibbs affectionately known as “Pixie”, was born on May 28, 1940, to Rena Drayton and Leonard Barlow. She gained her wings on June 27, 2024.
Mable was a proud graduate of Risley High School and then went on to earn her certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She started her career as a CNA and worked for several years at several nursing homes caring for the elderly. She later pursued her passion for cooking in full swing by deciding to switch careers and went to work for Spanky’s/Marshside Grill as a cook and remained there for several years until her retirement. She also worked at Coastal Community College at night, performing custodial maintenance.
When she wasn’t working, you could find her in the kitchen cooking up a favorite meal or working in her garden, where she developed a mighty green thumb. Her favorite pastime was dancing and listening to music. If there was music playing, you could rest assured that she would be up cutting a rug. Her “Diva Style Flair” and love to dance earned her another nick name, “Tina Turner”. Mable was always the jokester and the life of the party. To know her was to love her.
In her transitioning, she leaves: a devoted daughter, Wanda Murray of Brunswick, GA; two granddaughters, Renita Metcalf (Alphonso) of Douglasville, GA, and Jacqueline Robinson (Korey) of Decatur, GA; two great-grandsons, Myles Robinson of Dallas, GA, and Andrew Metcalf (Kayla) of Norfolk, VA; two great-granddaughters, Kior Strohman of Decatur, GA, and Autumn Metcalf of Douglasville, GA; two great-great-granddaughters, Journey and Amari Metcalf of Norfolk, VA; loving sister, Lola Mae Richardson of Brookman, GA; sisters-in-law, Margarite Slay and Louise Alford; devoted friends, Sonya Grant and Bernice Williams; godson, Norwood Adkins; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and friends that will miss her dearly.
