Mamie Strong Obituary

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Psalm 23:4

To all my loved ones that I am leaving behind, don’t worry about me because my Heavenly Father has set me free. Please be forever grateful and thankful for the happiness we’ve shared. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. This place was never meant to be a permanent home for any of us. As you celebrate the end of my life’s journey, I pray that each of you will find comfort in knowing that a loving and compassionate God knows what is best for each of us.

Mamie Helena Strong was born on February 25, 1943, to Charley A. Strong and Geneva (Bowers) Strong in Estill, South Carolina. She received her formal education in the public schools of Hampton County and graduated from Estill Training School, Estill, South Carolina. Growing up in a household where God was the foundation of their lives, she accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and grew up in First Estill Baptist Church, Estill, South Carolina.

In her leisure, she enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, maintaining an immaculate home, and taking care of her cats. She was employed by the New York City Off Track Betting Corporation as a ticket agent for 32 years.

God saw Helena’s struggles and pain, so He sent His angels on March 18, 2026, to reclaim His gift to this world. She was preceded in death by her father, Charley A. Strong; mother, Geneva Bowers Strong; sisters, Viola Peeples and Cordella Howard; and brothers, Craig Strong and Sidney Carter.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Margie Smoak of Grovetown, GA, Sandra (Ralph) Ruiz of Hepzibah, GA, Bobby (Vivian) Strong of Chester, OH, Lillie Bell Solomon of Estill, SC, and Jeffery (Donna) Strong of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
