Marietta Thomas Obituary

“Then shall the dust return to the Earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7

As we gather in the spirit of celebration, to honor the life of a matriarch, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, our hearts are heavy, but we must accept God’s will and honor him. For
Marietta’s fifty-eight beautiful years, he allowed her to remain here on Earth. During all of your tears and pain, don’t think of her as gone, think of her as traveling on a trip, and one day, each of us will join those that have gone before us. An amazing individual with a beautiful smile is the picture that each of you must keep in your heart, knowing that God Almighty is with each of us.

Marietta “Tara” Thomas was born in Brunswick, Georgia, on October 18, 1964, to the late Mr. Roosevelt Thomas, Sr., and the late Janie Love Thomas. She was the sixth child of seven from their
union. Tara was educated in the public school system of Brunswick, Georgia. She joined JROTC in 9th grade at Brunswick High School and graduated in 1983. She had hopes of joining the military, but unfortunately missed the call when she moved to California, where she lived for a year.

Tara met her husband, Greg, in the beginning of 1991. The two were joined in holy matrimony on February 12, 1993. From their union, the two welcomed two beautiful children, Samelia and Samuel King.

In 1996, she received her CDA and became employed at Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority Inc. She taught three to five year olds at Glynn County Head Start for the last twenty-six years, where she was formally known as “Ms. Thomas.” Everyone knew that Ms. Thomas was going to treat their children like they were her own.

Tara lived her life to the fullest and had many hobbies. She loved bowling, crabbing, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, watching Disney movies and the Friday Trilogy, making seafood boils, and
taking walks, but her most favorite thing to do was to sit on her porch, listen to her old skool jams and get her “groove on” with her candles lit.

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, God picked Tara, his most beautiful flower, to be a part of his heavenly garden. Tara was preceded in death by her mother, Janie L. Thomas; father, Roosevelt
Thomas, Sr.; two brothers, Roy Thomas and Darrell Thomas; and niece, Sherrie Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Gregory King; children, Samelia King and Samuel King; bonus children, Gregory King, Jr., and Quentin King; brothers, Roosevelt Thomas, Jr., Gantt Thomas, and Barrie Thomas; sister, Delsenia Harris; special cousin, more like sister, Brenda Bailey; sister-in-law, Angela Thomas; uncle, Mr. John Lillie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and all of the children (young and old) who she loved as her own and affectionally called her babies.
