Mary Anna (Washington) Johnson

Mary Ann Washington Johnson's earthly life began on January 24, 1937, in Hampton County, South Carolina, when God gave this gentle spirit to the late Charlie Washington and the late Dora Lee Frazier Washington. She attended the Estill Training School, in Estill, South Carolina.

When a man finds a wife, he finds a good thing. Mary Ann Washington married Virgin Johnson, Sr. in 1953 in Hampton County, South Carolina. They were married for 62 years when God called Virgin, Sr. home in 2015. This union was blessed with four children.

Mary Anna accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and when God called her home, she was a member of Revelation Ministries. She loved cooking and could make everything taste very good. She was a very reserved individual who believed strongly in the importance of family.

Mary Anna lived a full life, but God saw she was tired, and the hills were too hard to climb.  She quietly succumbed to the Lord on May 24, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Virgin Johnson, Sr.; son, Clayton Johnson, and daughter, Anna Dora Dobson.

She leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Bishop Virgin (Charlene) Johnson, Jr., Orangeburg, SC, and Virgil (Tamika) Johnson of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Barbara Johnson, Luray, SC; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister, Clementine Boler of Savannah, GA; sisters-in-law, Cora lee Jones and Lottie Johnson both of Savannah, GA, Evelyn Smoak, Luray, SC, Julia Overstreet of California; brothers-in-law, Star (Fannie) Johnson of Savannah, GA, and Nathaniel (Wanda) Beckett of Fort Payne, Alabama; Special cousin, Irene Priester; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
