The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:1-4
It was a cold winter day in Brunswick, Georgia, on January 16, 1948, God blessed Nellie Armond and Augustus Spaulding, Sr., with a child who they named Melvin Eugene. Everyone that encountered Melvin knew that there was something unique and extraordinary about him as a person. Melvin, better known as “Pudgy”, received his formal education in Glynn County Schools, attending Risley High School. There he was a part of the Risley High Football Team.
Melvin accepted Christ as his Savior as an adult and was united with First Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until his health failed.
In his leisure, he enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was employed by Murphy Taxicab and Hall, Jones and Brown Funeral Home for many years.
Melvin Armond was united in holy matrimony with Gloria Bright. Their union was blessed with two children: Melvin Armond, Jr., and Byron Bright.
Melvin Eugene Armond, Sr., departed this life on April 14, 2025, in Midway, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Bright Armond; his parents, Nellie Young and Augustus Spaulding, Sr.; devoted stepfather, Walter Young, Sr., and his son, Byron Bright.
He leaves to cherish his memories his son, Melvin E. Armond, Jr.; grandchildren; great grandchildren and a host of siblings, other family and friends.
