Mildred Green Obituary

As we gather in the spirit of celebration to honor the life of a matriarch, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend; our hearts are heavy, but we must accept God’s will and honor him for the eighty-five beautiful years he allowed Mildred Ann Washington Green to remain here on earth. During all of your tears and pain, don’t think of her as gone; think of her as traveling on a trip and one day, each of us will join those that have gone before us. An amazing individual with a beautiful smile is the picture that each of you must keep in your heart knowing that God Almighty is with each of us. She was born on January 4, 1937, to the late Johnson E. Washington, Sr., and the late Annie Spaulding Washington in Shellman Bluff, Georgia.

Mildred received her formal education in the McIntosh county school system in Darien, Georgia. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with Gould Branch Baptist Church in Townsend, Georgia. When she moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia, she became a member of First African Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her passing. She was employed by the Glynn County Board of Education as a school bus driver for 10 years; she was a member of Zeta Amicae; she worked as the First African Baptist Sunday School Superintendent; and served as First A. B. Summer Lunch Program Advisor, First A. B. Senior Choir Member, First A. B. Junior Choir Youth Advisor, and First A. B. Pastor Aid Society Member.

When a man finds a wife, he finds a good thing. Mildred A. Washington was united in holy matrimony with Clifton M. Green, Sr., on January 25, 1958, in Kingsland, Georgia. Their union was blessed with three children: Clifton M. Green, Jr., Deweece Green Ogden, and Ephraim W. Green, Sr.

We are in this world for a limited time. This world is not our home, we are just passing through on our way to a mansion that God has prepared for us. Mildred Ann Green departed this life on July 2, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her father, Johnson Ephraim Washington, Sr.; mother, Annie Spaulding Washington Oliver; brothers, Johnson Ephraim Washington, Jr., and George Washington; and sister, Aida Bell Washington. She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband of 64 years, Clifton M. Green, Sr., of St. Simons Island, GA; loving sister, Lula M. Gibbs of Savannah, GA; children, Clifton M. (Bettie) Green, Jr.,
