Angels are sent to earth by God above. Earth needed a beautiful caring individual, so on February 12, 1943, in Helfin, Alabama, God lent Ella Gunn & Winford Cooley a beautiful baby boy to teach and raise until He sent His Angels to claim His very own. Don’t cry for me! Why cry for a soul that God has sent free. This place was never meant to be our home because we are just pilgrims passing through on our way home.
Johnny received his formal education at Heflin High School in Heflin, AL. He accepted Christ as his Savior at Canaan Baptist Church at an early age and was united with Emanual Baptist and Zion Rock Baptist Church where he served as a minister.
Johnny Cooley was united in holy matrimony with Susie S. Brooks on May 19, 2007, in Brunswick, GA.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed talking and watching sports on TV. Johnny also enjoyed meeting people and telling them about the goodness of the Lord. He never met a stranger.
Johnny Cooley, Sr. departed this life on November 27, 2023. He was preceded in death by his son, Melvin Coole; three brothers, Emmet Cooley, Solden Cooley and Office Cooley; two sisters, Stella Cooley and Margaret All.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 16 years, Susie Cooley; daughters, Marika Cooley and Barbara Tillman; sons, Johnny Cooley, Jr., and Shawn Cooley; one stepson, Jamie D. Dickens; three sisters, Shirley Cooley, Joyce Davis and Dorothy Jordan; one brother, Gary Cooley; 22 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Due to the current state of (the COVID-19) pandemic and in order to promote social distancing, anyone entering the funeral home for viewing; as well as attending all graveside or funeral services, either inside or outside, must wear a mask. We will also limit the number of persons allowed to enter the funeral home or any other facility at any given period during the viewing process. We ask that you leave the premise upon exiting the building. The family is most appreciative of each of you for all acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time in their lives.
