Minster Michael Leon Jackson

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall

be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” I Corinthians 15:51-52

We are in God’s presence in life, death, and everlasting; yet we must give up our earthly body to receive eternal life. To all my loved ones that I am leaving behind, don’t worry about me, because my Heavenly Father has set me free.  From the beginning to the end of time, all our actions and stops along the way will determine our final resting place. Although, my time seems all so short, don’t be ungrateful or angry with God for taking me from what each of you perceive to be all too soon. This place called earth was never meant to be a permanent home for any of us.

Minister Michael Jackson made his entrance into the world on November 1, 1969; blessing his parents, Yvonne Jackson and Michael Hughes who resided in Brunswick, Georgia with this gift from God. He received his education in the Glynn County Public School System, Brunswick, Georgia.

Minister Mike” or “Mike” as he was affectionately called by family and friends accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 10 under the ministry of Brother Clay Phillips who continued to give him spiritual and ministerial advice, until God called him home. Mike’s love for the ministry and God’s anointing over his life directed him to lead various ministries, especially the singles’ ministry at Westside Church of Christ and Northside Church of Christ, Jacksonville, Florida. He later went on to become Senior Minister at Palatka Church of Christ, Palatka, Florida, from 2003-2007 and Miller Street Church of Christ, Orange Park, Florida, from 2008-2020.

Michael Jackson was united in holy matrimony with Shatesha L Smith on June 26, 2004, in Jacksonville Florida. They were blessed with seven children: LaPorsha Riley, Tiana Geddes, Kellie Jackson, Shakiera Jackson, Renecia Gatson, Mikayla Jackson and Charity Jackson.

In his leisure, he enjoyed watching his favorite team; the Jacksonville Jaguars, telling jokes, cooking; especially a good crab boil, playing golf, traveling, spending time with family and friends, going crabbing and bringing others to the Kingdom of God through his ministry. He was employed by Walgreens as an assistant store manager for 20 years.

Only God is the giver and taker of life. God’s plans are not always our plans. When the angels came on May 29, 2022, for Minister Michael Jackson, which was much sooner than we planned. We will brave the grief that comes and try to understand. He was preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne Jackson, and his father, Michael Hughes Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Shatesha L Smith Jackson; his children, LaPorsha Riley, Tiana Geddes, Kellie Jackson, Shakiera Jackson, Renecia Gatson, Mikayla Jackson and Charity Jackson; seven grandchildren; siblings, Earlis Pinkney (Jerome), Carolyn Jackson, Lutricia Lewis (Stanley), Maureen Jackson, Vivian Williams, Michael Hughes Jr, Dwayne Hughes, Simone Hughes, Harrington Hughes and Tomoka Hughes; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Due to the current state of (COVID-19) pandemic and in order to promote social distancing, anyone entering the funeral home for viewing; as well as attending all graveside or funeral service, either inside or outside, must wear a mask. We will also limit the number of persons allowed to enter the funeral home or any other facility at any given period during the viewing process.  We ask that you leave the premise upon exiting the building. The family is most appreciative to each of you for all acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time in their lives.
