Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4
My life was beautiful, for as long as it lasted, but the journey of my life has come to an end. Please find comfort in knowing that I have no regrets whatsoever. Though I’m gone, my guidance will continue to shine upon your paths. I am at peace knowing that my wife and children are surrounded by so much love and support. Some things in life are impossible for mankind to fully understand. As a family, you must accept the will of God, because He never makes mistakes.
Today, we celebrate a true angel that was sent from God on August 2, 1969, to Clarence Johnson, Sr., and Martha Chaneyfield Johnson in Savannah, Georgia. They were elated with their special gift, so they named him MORRIS LAMAR JOHNSON. Morris, known to his family and friends as “BIG MO,” was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. He was a very unique individual. He was educated in the Beaufort County school system and graduated from Hilton Head High School in Hilton Head, South Carolina. After graduation, he furthered his education at Denmark Technical College in Denmark, South Carolina, and he later became an Industrial Engineer and Trade Specialist. Morris accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. He mastered many skills in his industrial profession. He was a member of ILA #1414.
The Bible tells us that when a man finds a wife, he finds a good thing. When he found Niekia, he knew she was a blessing from God. Morris Johnson was united in holy matrimony with Niekia Cole on December 27, 2003, in Pooler, Georgia. Their union was blessed with two children: Morris Tiger Johnson, Jr., and Blake Laffeate Johnson.
Morris was a loving man who never missed a chance to show and tell his family and friends how much he loved them. He was always a true person and committed to unwavering support of his friends and family. He was an energetic, intelligent, loving, fun and compassionate young man. Although his time here was brief, it felt like a lifetime as we were blessed to share so many fun memories and countless hours of laughter together. He was a hard worker and embraced challenges. His charming personality complimented his beautiful smile as a radiant beacon of love and joy, which captivated everyone that saw it. Big Mo’s family has always been his reason for living. When he wasn’t working, he spent his free time watching football and grilling. The highlight of his life was spending time with his gorgeous wife and handsome boys.
We are sorrowful, but not as those who have no hope. We are sorrowful because we shall miss his kind smile and jokes. On June 19, 2025, God in His wise providence saw fit to call Morris home to rest with him. Departing this life, he was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Johnson, Sr.; mother, Martha Johnson; siblings, Joyce Young, Cynthia Johnson, and Abraham Johnson; father-in-law, John Blake, Jr.; and special nephew, Mike Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his everlasting memories: his beautiful wife, Niekia Cole-Johnson; sons, Morris Tiger (Emily) Johnson and Blake Laffeate Johnson; siblings, Sam (Veronica) Walker of Savannah, GA, Freddie Mae Washington, Clarence (Sharon) Johnson, Jr., Tyrone (Natalie) Chaneyfield, Josie Mae Johnson, Robert (Angie) Chaneyfiled, all of Hilton Head Island, SC, Anginette (Willie) Johnson, and Sharon Johnson of Ridgeland, SC; father-in-law, Andrew Gardner; brother-in-law, Laffeate Cole; sisters-in-law, Sabrina Walker, of New Jersey, Nicole Larzoda of Bridgeport, CT, Lakeshia Devore, Clarissa Owens, Rachel Walker, and Carolyn Williams, all of Estill, SC, Synetria (Alex) Singleton of Hampton, SC, and Josalynn (Andre) Sumter-Smith of Columbia, SC; godbrother, Andrew Heyward of Ridgeland, SC; godsisters, Debra Simmons and Dr. Tiesha Heyward, both of Atlanta, GA; godchild, Kaiserdior Ford of Ridgeland, SC; aunts, Cheryl Chaneyfield and Deloris Chaneyfield both of Ridgeland, SC; best friends, Tim Singleton and Ahdonus Cofer; and a host of other relatives and friends.
