Mother Edith Wilson Obituary

The train of death came by for me on many occasions, but God had some additional earthly work for me. On August 26, 2024, I could not stop for death, but death kindly stopped for me. When that train of death stopped for me after ninety-four years, I welcomed my departure from this land and my earthly duties had finally come to an end. There’s peace and serenity on this train. To those I am leaving behind, remember the good and troubled times, the laughter, the journey I’ve walked over the years, and the exceptional life I lived until the very end. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest, I truly was blessed to live the three scores and ten years God promised me and the twenty-four additional years. I will miss you all dearly, so keep soaring until the day comes when we’re together again.

On June 20, 1930, in Allendale, South Carolina, God blessed her parents, the late Jessie Drayton and the late Gracy Hall Drayton with a tenacious and graceful individual that they named Edith
Drayton. They were also taught to work hard and to possess their own. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and became a member of Near Rivers Baptist Church, Allendale, SC. After her marriage, she became a member of Sandhill Baptist Church under Reverend Sammie Scott. She was a dedicated member and served as a senior choir member, deaconess, missionary board, and church secretary. She was a devoted and faithful member. This foundation fostered her love for the Lord and
a reason to stay on her Christian journey.

When Edith met Stephen, she knew that it was a blessing from her Heavenly Father. Edith Drayton was united in holy matrimony with Stephen D. Wilson on June 10, 1950. Their union was blessed with eight children: Jannie, Stephen, Jr., Alice, Jesse, Marjorie, Theodore, Lena, and Leon.

Most people desire success in life, and they do it in various ways, but Edith only wanted a life of simplicity and love for her family. There are so many things that kept her life fulfilled. She enjoyed telling jokes, laughing, cooking, baking, and shopping. The highlight of her life has been the quality time spent with family and friends. Edith was kind and generous, humble, had a beautiful smile, and was a sharp snappy dresser.

During the morning of August 26, 2024, Edith D. Wilson dropped her robe of flesh and went on to be with the Lord. She has left a void in the lives of all who knew and loved her, but she has joined other loved ones that left before her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stephen D. Wilson; sons, Theodore Wilson and Jesse Wilson; and bonus daughter, Willie Reatha Goldwire-Wilson.

She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted children, Jannie (Marvin) Bowers, Stephen Wilson, Jr., both of Garnett, SC, Alice Scott of Pooler, GA, Marjorie (Cecil) Shuman of Pembroke, GA; Lena (Mamadou) Toure of Charlotte, NC, and Leon (Jasmin) Wilson of Ohio; forty grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; bonus daughters, Priscilla Reed, Hattie Simmons, and Helen Green; best friend, Ella Wilson; a special niece that was like a daughter, Earnestine Breeland; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; as well as her Sandhill Baptist Church family. Edith’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
