Oscar Cummings III Obituary

A page has been turned, the chapter of my life is now completed, remember the battle I fought to remain on earth with each of you. A victory has been won, a life’s book closed, and it was all part of God plans for me. Family and friends, please accept the will of God, because a loving and awesome God knows what best for each of us. I want each of my family members and friends to begin your journey of healing by remembering the joy that we shared through pictures, mementos, and favorite stories both funny and sad. Let your minds wonder the path of remembrance, reliving the joy and good times we have had. Mr. Oscar Cummings III was affectionally known as “Poppy” to those who knew and loved him. Poppy was born on February 1, 1977, and given his heavenly wings on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Oscar and Linda Cummings. Poppy moved to Brunswick, Georgia, as a young child and spent his life in Arco surrounded by family and lifelong friends.

Poppy attended Glynn Academy and over the years developed his skills as a barber. He worked at Brothers and Sisters Barber Shop at the time of his death. He also loved music and sports. He could be found rapping over a beat or making bets on the next big game. He had a special love for each of his children. Poppy had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke. Poppy was a big man with an even bigger heart. He did not meet a stranger and found friends wherever he went. He would help anybody and had a compassionate heart. He was loved and will be missed deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Cummings, Jr.

Poppy was survived by: his mother, Linda Cummings of Brunswick; children, Osciana Cummings, Oscareon Cummings, Oscar Cummings IV, O’Mari Cummings, and O’Siah Cummings; stepdaughter, Alexis Barber; siblings, Patricia Cummings, Cyrus Cummings, Paul (Pamela) Cummings, Carlos Cummings, Gwendolyn (Gary) Campbell, Travis Cummings, Phillip (Melonie) Cummings, Natasha Vannoy, and Christopher Washington. He was a loving uncle to a host of nieces and nephews who mourn his passing along with other cousins and friends.
