Ralph Vordelle Macon was born in Effingham County on May 7, 1924, to Carey and Polly Macon. He was raised in faith as a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia. He served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. Thereafter, he worked at the Oglethorpe Club in Savannah until his retirement. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, it revealed his profound thoughtfulness as well as his love of God and family.
On October 23, 1947, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Edith Elvira Clementine Sibert. This marriage was one of love and devotion and from this union three children were born: Shelia Macon Walker, Ralph Macon Jr., and Sherill Macon Young. All three children preceded him in death as did one of his grandsons, Shaun Macon.
Ralph was called home to rest with God the Father on Monday, January 16, 2023. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his precious memories: three grandchildren, Damian Winton Young of Houston, TX, Edgar Vordell Walker of Slidell, LA, Shanika Macon of New Orleans, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Sophia Edith Young, of Boston, MA, Grace Nicole Black and Brett Macon Black both of South Carolina, Taylor Macon, Nathan Vordelle Macon, and Lyric Ross all of New Orleans, LA; great-great granddaughter, Saige Hawthorne of New Orleans, LA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
