Rejoyce Allen Obituary

Rejoyce Allen was born on June 17, 1940, in Sheffield, Alabama, to George P. Underwood and Mattie Pearl Underwood. She was the third child of eight children. She attended elementary school in Sheffield, Alabama, until the family was relocated to Marcella Lane in Leighton, Alabama. She attended junior high school and senior high school in Leighton, Alabama, graduating from Leighton Training School in 1957. Shortly after graduating from high school, Rejoyce relocated to Detroit, Michigan, and attended Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan.

Rejoyce accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of twelve and was united with Cave Springs Church. She later became a member of Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, where she was a very active member.

Rejoyce Underwood was united in holy matrimony with Eddie Allen on June 9, 1962, at Tried Stone Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Michelle Huckleby.

In her leisure, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and bowling. She loved sports, traveling around the world, shopping, cooking, entertaining and helping every little child she could find. She was employed by General Motors Fisher Body as a Machine Repair Journeyman until her retirement after twenty-two years of service. She was a member of UAW, Eastern Star, a Democratic leader and a life member of NAACP.

Rejoyce Allen departed this life on June 1, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Eddie Allen; daughter, Michelle, Son in-law Harlan Huckleby; her siblings, Nancy Underwood and George D. Underwood; two grandsons, Andrew Huckleby and Edward Huckleby; stepdaughter, Mona Jenkins; and a host of other family and friends.
