The loss of a loved one can be extremely difficult, but we also know that our grief is temporary, limited to this life. In Heaven we will no longer experience the sadness associated with lost loved ones. Revelation 21:4 promises, "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." In fact, for lost loved ones who are in heaven, we will only be separated from them for a short time. It’s hard to understand why people are taken from us so young, but today as a family, we find comfort in knowing that Rivannah Burgess Crawford was a special part of a well-lived life. When God calls our loved ones home, He leaves a gift of memories in exchange. Our hearts are heavy and we are looking to Heaven for our strength. We realize that God is in control, our faith will comfort us, but it still doesn’t mitigate the pain. Rivannah Burgess Crawford was born on June 15, 1945, to the late Ernest Burgess, Sr., and the late Alphia Barnes Burgess in Walterboro, South Carolina. She surrendered to the summon of her Creator on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Colleton Medical Center, Walterboro, SC. She was affectionately known as “Nana” and “Ms. Ann” to her family and friends. She has been a superior wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County and was an alumnus of the class of 1963. Upon graduation, she relocated to Charleston, SC, where she later received an Associate Degree in Nursing. In 1963, Ann was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Clarence Crawford. From this union, they were blessed with six children. Ann accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Nichols Chapel AME Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Alvin Blake. She served faithfully for 28 years until she relocated back to her childhood home of Walterboro, SC, to care for her ailing mother, sister, and brother-in-law. Even though what seemed like a demanding task in providing care for her immediate family, she still found the time to serve and help others whenever possible. She was just an amazing woman with the zest and energy to go beyond what was asked or expected of her. Upon returning to her roots, she fellowshipped at Christian Life Center with Elder Rhodan. She continued her Christian fellowship by becoming a member of St. Peter’s AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Eugene Cryer, Jr. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her sons, Baby Boy Crawford and Vada Crawford; her grandson, Montrell Crawford; two sisters, Rosalie Griffin and Sadie Moultrie; and one brother, Ernest C. Burgess, Jr. Ms. Ann leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories: her children, Donna (Joe Dunmeyer), Charleston, SC, Troy Crawford (Tariq), Walterboro, SC, Dwayne Crawford (Mona), Greensboro, NC, and Tasca Crawford, Walterboro, SC; grandchildren, Auntrell, Troy M, Quintrey, Kyriaki, Kenny, Katori, Onandreia, Ashlei, Mekhi, Christian, LA, Lovey, Cameron, and Chase; great-grandchildren, Jakyia, Derion, Quaynce, Lonnie, Makyla, Kash, and Michael; sister, Ann Webb (Richard), Orange, NJ; sister-in-law, Mary Burgess, Walterboro, SC; brother, Nate Beligen (Barbara), Goose Creek, SC; nieces, Carrie Lawry, Walterboro, SC, Millerine Griffin, NJ, Trevia Gonzales and Robericka Burgess both of Virginia Beach, VA; nephews, Albert Griffin (Annie Mae) and Ernest C. Burgess III all of Walterboro, SC; special children, Zach Harrison, Larry Smith, Carl A. Rivers and Virgi Ford all of Walterboro, SC, Dawn Wright, North Charleston, SC, and Maurice Taylor (Kamy) Charlotte, NC; and a host of cousins and friends.
