Sarah Thomas was born to the late Lucinda “Mama Lou” Armstrong on August 30, 1934, on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Sarah attended Harrington Grade School on St. Simons Island and completed her education at Risley High School in Brunswick, GA, now known as a landmark of African American education in Glynn County. At a young age, she accepted Christ in her life and became a faithful member of First African Baptist Church. After returning to Brunswick, she became a member of First Friendship Baptist Church where she attended until becoming ill.
After high school, Sarah began her career as a telephone operator with Southern Bell Telecommunication, currently known as AT&T. She’s worked at the Brunswick, GA, Jacksonville, NC and Jacksonville, FL, branches where she retired after over 35 years of service. Sarah will be remembered for her impeccable sense of fashion, intellect, articulation, and unwavering love for her family. She enjoyed reading and often quoted the Bible, completing crossword puzzles, and chatting on the phone for hours.
Sarah Thomas departed this earthly life on February 9, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucinda “Mama Lou” Armstrong; sisters, Susie Alexander, Lucinda “Bit” Armstrong, Marilyn Ramsey, Anna Armstrong, Molly Lee, and Rosa Mae Armstrong; brothers, James Armstrong and Leroy Armstrong; and children, Ramona “Charley” Neely and Kevin “Buster” Robinson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Leonard (Cheryl) Davis, Penny Davis, Brewstina (Eugene) Lecounte and Alicia Davis; grandchildren, Valerie Davis, Tammy Dixon, Rory Davis, Torrey (Tiffany) Davis, Sheneka “Nikki” Bradwell, Cory Davis, Gregory Lee, Dominique “DJ” Davis, Ian Lecounte, Jazz Lecounte, and Quinton Davis; twenty great grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends; cherished great-granddaughters whom she raised, Shaqoya Bradwell and Shatorryia Thomas; and great-great- grandson, Jayce Jefferson.
