Sennie Lewis Obituary

MOTHER SENNIE MAE HINTON LEWIS was born in Lloyd, Florida, on April 4, 1931, to the late Willie Clinton and Mary Hinton Clinton. She was brought up in a Christian home and confessed Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. Rilla Missionary Baptist Church in Lloyd, Florida. She completed her early education in both Lloyd and Tallahassee, Florida. As a teenager, she migrated to Brunswick, Georgia, to aid and assist her uncle and aunt in their family business. She attended Risley High School, where she was a member of the Risley Tigers Girls’ basketball squad. She later met and fell in love with a handsome young man, the late Mr. Willie H. Lewis, and married him on February 10, 1948. To this union, four children were born: Jacquline, Gregory, Janice, and Gary.

In 1948, she joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. Over the course of the years, she joined the Gospel Choir, the Voices of Shiloh, the Willing Workers, the Tribe of Gad, the Culinary Ministry, and Shiloh’s softball team. Under the Pastorate of Pastor E. C. Tillman, she, along with most of the Shiloh members, enjoyed traveling in and out of the United States. Reverend Tillman also presented her with a Certificate of Appreciation as Mother of the Year, 2005. On May 8, 2011, under the Pastorate of Pastor Todd, she was appointed to serve the Lord and others in the capacity of the Mother of the Church Ministry. On that same day, she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for being the second-oldest mother in attendance on Mother’s Day.

Mother Sennie Mae Lewis graduated from Manpower Training School and began working at Glynn Memorial Hospital as a cook where the Lord blessed her with a loving son-in-Christ whom she truly loved, Pastor Mark Baker.

Mother Sennie Lewis was a faithful Christian woman who loved attending church and instilled that love of Christ in her children. She had a zest for life that came across in her many hobbies. She enjoyed bowling and faithfully watching the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Lakers. She also enjoyed dancing, socializing, and cooking. God blessed her with the gift of baking and cooking many delicious dishes and the heart to share with everyone. She was special to so many people, and she will be truly missed.

Mother Sennie Mae Lewis was preceded in death by her former husband and friend, Mr. Willie H. Lewis; son, Gregory Lewis; granddaughters, Shemika Lewis and Shaquita Estes; fathers, Willie Clinton and Maxie Evans; mother, Mary Mitchell; sisters, Ella Watson, Vinell Hopkins, and Patricia Baker; and aunt, Inez Georgia Ann Bowman.
