Shirley was born on June 7, 1951, to Moses and Ollie Mae Clark in Brunswick, Georgia. She attended Risley High School (Brunswick, GA) from 1966 to 1969 and graduated from Central High School (Syracuse, NY) in 1970. After graduation, she obtained her Secretarial Certificate.
Afterward, Shirley returned to Brunswick, GA, where she landed her lasting job at Rich Products (formerly known as SeaPak), from which she eventually retired. During her career at Rich Products, Shirley assisted with leading the Worldwide Mission Program, which helped employees learn management and supervisory skills, connecting them with company leadership while bridging the gap between company metrics and employee retention. During her tenure, she met a dear friend and sister names Jean Wist, who entrusted Shirley with leading the company's marketing and entertainment group, the Rich SeaPak Singers. As Shirley traveled around the U.S., she ensured that employees could accompany her, learning to "hold a note" while singing and performing.
Shirley's passion for singing was consistently expressed at church in the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Choir, where she served for over 20 years, holding positions such as Secretary of the Church, Adult and Youth Choir Director, and Praise Dance Director. She also hosted her infamous Annual Easter Fashion Show after the church's Easter Program.
Shirley's singing extended beyond church walls into the community, where she participated in various choirs and groups such as the Counselor's, known for their angelic acapella voices, alongside devoted friends like Bert McKnight. She was also part of the Celebrate Life Community Choir, dedicated to educating about early prevention of cancer and heart disease while ministering to troubled youth.
Shirley was the founder of the community-originated annual event "Arco Day," born out of her concern for the youth in her beloved Arco Community. She tirelessly worked to develop a day dedicated to fellowship, storytelling, and singing uplifting songs during Sunday Service, aiming to reunite Arco raised individuals and strengthen community bonds. Shirley's nurturing spirit, unwavering support, and boundless love will forever live in the hearts of her children, family, Godchildren, and friends. She was a brilliant woman whose passion for singing, youth development, and dedication to community events inspired those around her. Colleagues and friends remember her as a tireless worker and mentor at Rich Products. Shirely was known for her warm and caring personality, her generous heart always ready to lend a helping hand. Her kindness and compassion touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Shirley's memory will be forever cherished by her family, friends, and colleagues. Her legacy as a mother, songstress, confidant, religious crusader, and community advocate will endure, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all.
