Shirley Roberts

REFLECTIONS

Shirley Regina Wing Roberts was born on February 28, 1937, to the late Richard and Marylon Davis on St. Simons Island, Georgia. She received her formal education at Harrington Graded School and Risley High School in Glynn County. She furthered her education at Savannah State College in Savannah, Georgia and later became a math teacher at Glynn Academy High School in Brunswick, Georgia.

Shirley Roberts accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with First African Baptist Church of St. Simons Island, GA; where she served on the Pastor Aide Club, the Mission Society, Adult Sunday School Teacher and on April 27, 2014, at 3:00 PM she was ordained as a Deacon of First African Baptist Church of St. Simons Island, GA.

Shirley Regina Wing was united in holy matrimony with Alonzo Roberts.

In her leisure, she enjoyed crocheting and made blankets for all family members and some of her friends. She was employed by the Glynn County Board of Education as a Math Teacher until her retirement. She was a member of the Eastern Star Progressive Chapter No. 139, Golden Circles, Hands of Jericho and Eta Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Shirley Regina Wing Roberts departed this life on August 6, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memory: her stepson, Gregory Roberts; one sister, Dean Wing; her caregiver, niece, Deanna Cuyler; her nephew who assisted in her care giving, Justin Whing and a host of nieces and nephews. Two special best friends Alma Green and Lucille McNear.
