Thelma Lee Gradney gained her wings on Thursday, October 14, 2021. She was 80 years old. Born in Liberty, Texas, she lived most of her life in Raywood, Texas, then relocated to Brunswick, Georgia. Thelma was known for being a determined, faithful Christian woman. She was an active member of her church for years and supported quite a few Christian organizations. She was a loyal servant to the Lord, a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, and aunt. Thelma loved her family and friends and would do anything in her power to help others. She was a strong, motherly matriarch to those who knew her, and she will be deeply missed. Thelma was honored to be nominated “Miss Liberty” of Liberty High School in Texas. She also accomplished raising a family of her own and was married to John for 42 years.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, John Ville Gradney; mother, Adeline (Hadley) Warren; and father, Emmett Montgomery.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: five children, Claire Etta Leday of Texas, Freda Lynn (Johnny) Ward of Georgia, Shelia Ann Platts of Washington, Marcus James (Shayne) Gradney of Oklahoma, and Christopher Keith (Kimberly) Gradney of Pennsylvania; one loving grandson who lived with and helped support his grandmother for a period of time, Alex Joseph Leday of Texas; 13 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Annie Mae Montgomery of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Due to the current state of (COVID-19) pandemic and in order to promote social distancing, anyone entering the funeral home for viewing; as well as attending all graveside services must wear a mask. We will also limit the number of persons allowed to enter the funeral home at any given period during the viewing process. We ask that you leave the premise upon exiting the building. The family is most appreciative to each of you for all acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time in their lives.
