Angels are sent to earth by God above. Earth needed a handsome, caring individual, so God lent Thomas R. Orr, Sr., to this world and family on October 4, 1932, in Jasper County, South Carolina. God blessed the Orr family with this loving and hardworking man of God. Thomas R. Orr, Sr., was commonly called Okie Dokie,” and he was “Pop Pop” to his family.
Thomas received his early education in the public schools of Jasper County, South Carolina. He was a member of New Castle Baptist Church in Pineland, South Carolina, where he served as a faithful member.
Thomas married Rose Lee Singleton on March 15, 1953. They lived in Pineland, South Carolina, until moving to New York in December 1953 for a short time. During their beloved marriage, Thomas and Rose Lee had six beautiful children: Johnny Lee, Thomas Jr., Florence Robin, Gerard, Eric, and Vanessa. In January 1954, Thomas and Rose moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where several of Rose Lee’s family joined them in relocating to New Jersey. This is where they remained and raised their family until they retired. After retiring, they wanted more peace
and tranquility, so they relocated back to their hometown in Pineland, South Carolina, in 1999. Thomas was a member of Robertsville Community Center Senior Citizen Program. Thomas was full of life and a very positive individual. During his free time, he loved doing yard work, maintaining his property; along, with taking care of projects around his home. He loved his family and
communicated the importance of family. He was also a people’s person that loved being around others and making them happy.
God’s plans are not always our plans, and God sent for his angel on November 22, 2022. This was much sooner than the family planned; however, we will be brave through our grief. Waiting to welcome Thomas’ spirit to his heavenly home are: his parents, Maebell Cohen and Gassie Orr; two sons, Johnny Orr and Thomas R. Orr, Jr.; brothers, Larry Cohen and Marion Orr; sister-in-law, Lottie Major; and brother-in-law, Charlie Singleton.
In his transitioning, Thomas leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving wife, Rose Lee Orr; daughters, Florence Robin Jones and Vanessa Orr; sons, Gerard Orr and Eric Orr; ten grandchildren, Trisha Mills (Reginald), Thomas R. Orr III (Keisha), Johnny Orr (Karlisha), Rashon Orr (Shonya), Taliek Wise (Monte, Jr.), Raheem Orr, Sr., Eric Orr (Sunday), Larry Jamiel Jones, Tyshon Orr, and the baby of the grandchildren, Mecca Perkins; sister, Patricia Cohen; brother, Kernell Cohen (Jackie); brother-in-law, Paul Singleton; sisters-in-law, Earlean Williams (Edward), Johnnie Mae Lewis (Richard), and Dina Robinson (Larry); and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, many extended family members, and friends.
