Tommie Edwards Obituary

For I am now ready to be offered and the time of departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:6-7

On Thursday afternoon, November 7, 2024, at 1:05 PM, God sent down an angel to BROTHER TOMMIE EDWARDS to whisper into his ear that his flight awaits. Tommie answered, “Here I am
Lord, for my works down here are finished.” We love him, but God loves him best.

Tommie Edwards was born on April 8, 1941, to the late Stanford and Sadie Ling Edwards in Hampton County, South Carolina. He attended King Branch Baptist Church in Garnett, South Carolina. Tommie was educated in the public school system of Hampton County. He was a 1961 graduate of Estill Training School, Estill, South Carolina. After graduation, Tommie moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his siblings. He worked diligently in construction. After retiring, he moved to Guyton, Georgia, and later moved to South Carolina and lived there until his demise.

Tommie was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He was a man of few words. He enjoyed the great outdoors, working in his yard, spending time talking with his friends, family, and watching his sports.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shaletha “Lisa” Akinola; brothers, Howard, John, James, and Henry Edwards; and sisters, Marguerite Edwards, Bessie Brown, Beulah Brown, and Rosa Wright.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: one daughter, Sabrina (Mitchell) Butler of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three sisters, Annie Lee Garland of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Hattie Mae Jordan of Columbia, SC, and Ernestine M. Tice of Woodbridge, VA; one brother, Willie Edwards of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Lesa Edwards-Perry of Scotia, SC; a devoted nephew, Franklin “Tice” Edwards of Scotia, SC; special cousins, Reverend James Ling of Garnett, SC, and Nellie Mae Wright of Springfield, GA; special friends, Moses Lee, Pink, and Duke, all of Guyton, GA; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
