Virdell Mitchell Obituary

Virdell Byrom Mitchell was a very special woman who knew her life was purposefully and divinely orchestrated by God. She believed in working, caring for, and providing for her family. On October 7, 1950, Virdell Mitchell was born to the late James Eugene Byrom and Lora Davis in Brunswick, Georgia. She was born into a very large family and
was the oldest of ten children.

She was baptized at a young age and joined Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devoted and faithful member. This foundation fostered her love for the Lord and a reason to stay on her Christian journey. She received her formal education at Risley High School and was a graduating member of Glynn Academy Class of 1969.

Virdell was kind and generous, humble, had a beautiful smile, was a sharp dresser, and wore snappy attire. She enjoyed sewing, fashion, décor, keeping her Hummer in order, and enjoying the family of her Corvette Club. However, she loved her family most of all. She was employed by the Pulp Mill (now Georgia Pacific) for many years. After retiring, 12 years ago she became a “Nanny” for Brad and Audrey Chapman. Oh, how she loved Raegan and Emmalise.

He who is wise, compassionate and has all understanding, stretched forth His hand and took the hands of our loved one on January 28, 2024. She was preceded in death by her
father, James Eugene Byrom; one sister, Diane Merriweather and bonus daughter Marvella Mitchell.

She leaves to cherish her memories; a devoted husband for over 36 years, Charlie Mitchell, Jr. of Darien, GA; her mother, Lora Davis of Brunswick, GA; two daughters, Keleta Byrom and Ronnae Howard; two sons, Kwame Campbell of New York, NY and O’Bar Bolden of Brunswick, GA; two bonus daughters, Lasonya “Cookie” Smith and Marquita Griffin; seven grandchildren, Keon (Tavia) Perry, TJ Smith, Serenity Griffin, Kennedy Mitchell, Tirrell Smith, Shy’Lan Griffin, Warrick Griffin; one great-granddaughter, Kali Perry; nine siblings, Stephany Byrom, Geno Byrom, Lesley Byrom, Stacey Byrom, John Lalonde, James Lalonde, Lynda Lalonde and Debbie Saya and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
